Mass Shootings: Planning and Response Considerations

Critical incidents such as school shootings, workplace violence incidents, domestic violence attacks and terrorist threats are occurring with alarming frequency. These events can occur on college/university campuses, K-12 school grounds, the workplace or other public locations. Public safety agencies and crisis planners must adapt to these changes in society so that appropriate delivery of emergency services is ensured in a crisis. Course will cover the following topics:

  • Threat Assessments
  • Shooters (Schools, Workplace, Domestic Violence, Extremists, etc.)
  • Pre-Incident Planning
  • Multi-Agency Response Operations
  • Crisis Management
  • Command Considerations
  • Scene Safety
  • “Lessons Learned”
  • Resources for Planning & Training

Date, Time and Location:

  • Monday, 23 January 2012
  • 0830-1230 – Students should plan on being seated NLT 0830.
  • Kernersville Fire Department Headquarters, 316 West Bodenhamer Street, Kernersville, NC 27284


  • Students must pre-register.
  • To reserve a seat register at no later than January 17th, 2012 with name, agency and e-mail.

Students must be a current member of a public safety agency or school/college system to attend and must have proper I.D.
